Unnecessary Baggage

She is in need of his validation
And she spends so much time
vying for his love

He has never felt so desired
For her, his heart is wired
But he lacks the components that love consists of

She caters to him, he thinks she is doting
She makes him her world, he claims he needs air

He is not caught up in birthdays and anniversaries
This leaves her to wonder does he truly care

He does not want to
Give her his heart
and, reminiscent of the past
Not have his love returned

She does not want him
To ever question her love for him
Because in her past
This has left her burned

The baggage they carry
From lovers of the past
Is too much weight
For new love to bare

The unhealed scars
They wear on their hearts
Causes damage to the love
That is now here

He wishes that she
Would have faith in herself
And live a life outside of him

She desires for he
To see a future in “we”
And change “yours”, “mine”
To “us”, “ours” and “them”

She believes he cares
If she needs him, he’s there
Though he has never uttered the words

He feels he’s only a call away
He’s with her each and everyday
His actions are much louder than what she’s heard

Her mind begins to wander
And she becomes distant
Purposely creating a space between them

He takes notice to the new treatment
Happy he never verbalized his feelings
Like the others, he feels, she has only used him

In time, they both part ways
Never cultivating
A love that could finally be

Dragging with them
Closed lips and heavy hearts
Failing to realize that communication is key

So as you live your life
Falling in and out of love
Adding weight to your already heavy load

Ladies, he gives you all of his time
And fellas, you may display the actions
But saying “I love you” is worth more than gold
